We love a thoughtful gift here at Panko Shop. The perfect gift is often something unexpected, yet on point and personal at the same time. We've got the answer to creating an ultra-special, treasured gift and it's so easy: sign it!
One of our favorite Aunties, who has inscribed personal notes into our boys’ books since they were born, offers some basic tips at writing a simple yet thoughtful dedication. A memorable message will elevate your gift and make your recipient feel extra special.
1. The Right Spot
Be subtle in writing on one of the mostly-blank first pages or front cover interior. Be careful to avoid liner pages with full-pattern artwork; your message will get lost.
2. Greeting
An easy lead-in can connect with the gifting occasion, such as “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Birthday”.
3. Get personal
Make a connection with your recipient -- what might you have in common with each other, or how will the theme of the book relate to your reader? Add a teaser to appeal to their love of animals, dinosaurs, or a future career. “For my favorite little princess”, or “to the smartest girl I know”.
Lead into the story -- is it an adventure? A cookbook? Does it take place in a destination worthy of comment, to entice the reader to jump in and learn more? It can be a one-liner to segway into your sign off. “Ahoy Matey!”, “I hope to sample some of your new creations! Bon Appetit”, or “to one mighty wizard! Enjoy the adventure... Expelliarmus!”.
4. Add a date or holiday to remember
The most basic, yet critical, added touch for ultimate personalization. This will be fun for recipients (and their parents) to look back on in years to come, evoking memories.
